You can do this at the public library. They have registered publications, if you ask the librarian for help, which are kept updated with new grant/scholarships. They all want different requirements and financial need is often NOT the criterion for your selection. You must apply to each according to specificly listed directions found in the reference book. 20 Home school Ideas for in the Car

Home school parents usually find themselves spending a lot of time in the car, going to and from piano lessons, sports, scouts, co-ops and more.  Use your time in the car with your kids to get some homeschooled work in. Here are 20 great ideas to make drive time into school time.

1.       Spelling test- If you are in the habit of giving your child weekly spelling words, drive time can be a great time to test them. A good idea is to pick a day that you drive to the same place every week on that day, like Tuesday piano class for example. Tuesday can become test day. You can practice spelling words on car rides the other days of the week.

2.       Pledge of Allegiance- You don’t have to be staring at the flag to practice the pledge of allegiance and this is a great time to memorize it, I’m sure you will end up driving by a flag while you’re saying it anyway.

3.       Songs to memorize-turn the radio off and memorize songs for music class time. Practice songs your kids need to know for scouts like the make new friend’s song or Sunday school songs, your kids will be more confident around the other kids if they know the words to those songs!

4.       Counting objects- have your kids practice their counting skills by telling them to count a certain object, for younger kids you might want to choose something they won’t have to count too fast, older kids can practice counting objects that go by faster

5.       Books on CD- listening to books is proven to help children with vocabulary, improve listening skills and can help a family bond. Sometimes it is challenging to find time to read long books (Harry Potter, Huckleberry Finn, etc.) so audio books can be a great resource and your library is sure to have a large collection for you to borrow.

6.       Foreign Language practice- Is your child learning a new language? Use car time to practice flash cards, play study games, or listen to a book in the chosen language.

7.       Math Facts- Math drills can easily be done in the car even on short car trips, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division can all be practiced in the car saving time you would normally spend on this at home.

8.       Presidents- most eight graders have to learn the last names of the presidents in order, although you do not have to do this in eighth grade when home schooling, when you do decide to have your child to learn the names of the presidents, the car is a great place to practice

9.       Oral book reports- this should be self explanatory

10.   Classical composers- CD’s  like Beethoven’s wig, Mr. Bach comes to call and all the classical kids series are wonderful ways to not only listen to classical music but also about the famous composers who created it. Beethoven’s wig put s funny words laced with facts to the music making learning fun.

11.   Right and left- driving is a great time to teach your child right and left, at each turn announce whether you are making a right or left turn. After awhile ask them to tell you which way you turned.

12.   Opposites- take a few minutes of your ride to give your child some examples of opposites, and then ask them to tell you an opposite such as if it is a sunny day ask them what the opposite would be, a cloudy day.

13.   vocabulary review- have your child review their vocabulary words from their textbooks during car rides

14.   States and capitals- test your child and then let them test you!

15.   ABC’s- if you have young children use every opportunity to practice this all important song, especially drive time.

16.   Find items that begin with each letter of the alphabet in order- see if you can get through the whole alphabet before you arrive at your destination. Great practice for beginning readers

17.   Memorize the elements of the periodic t able- self explanatory

18.   reading aloud- have older kids read aloud

19.   Bible memory verses- a good trick is to have the memory verse wrote on an index card and taped to your steering wheel or sun visor, get in the habit of saying the verse aloud with your children every time you get in the car before you start the engine.

20.   Identifying road signs- have your child look for various road signs and discuss what they mean; by the time they are old enough to drive they will pass that part of the driving test with flying colors!

Time is valuable as home school parents know, so make the most of your drive time with your kids!

My daughter is planning on Home Schooling her daughter. Does anybody know of any good websites that would help her to plan the curriculum and ones that have work pages that she can print. My grand-daughter is 4 years old right now and is already doing and enjoying Kindergarten work.
To respond to digitalgimpling………Possibly because so many children are coming out of high school without a high school education. Many can’t read or spell properly and are not prepared for moving on to college. These children were taught by someone with a “degree in TEACHING”! I also never stated that my daughter didn’t have a degree in teaching. She does have a degree and my sister (also a teacher for the past 12 years) will be helping her. My daughter also intends to make sure that her daughter is involved in other activities and also a Charter School, to ensure that her daughter will learn socialization skills and also learn to work with others. Home Schooling is not a “Crock” it is an alternative to an education system that doesn’t always work very well.

The steady presence of technology has been in the majority of peoples lives over the past two decades. It has become an essential part of daily life as most people have internet capabilities on their computers and phones. Many school children are now beginning to reap the benefits of computers and internet capabilities as well. As most schools are now turning to the somewhat modern technology of the interactive whiteboard.

Interactive whiteboards have been around since the early 1990′s. However, the presence in public and private schools were virtually non-existent at that time. It took many years for interactive whiteboards to become popular among schoolteachers and other school personnel. These interactive whiteboards were primarily utilized within large corporations. The corporations would use these whiteboards during board meetings as they could be linked to computers and files at a moments notice.

Now, interactive whiteboards are becoming ever present in the public and private schools all over the United States. These interactive whiteboards have replaced the primitive chalkboards and dry erase boards of the past. Interactive whiteboards can be linked to special programs so that children as young as five years old can use them easily while gaining basic computer skills that they will need in the future. Teachers can run different programs that make learning more interesting to children of all ages. With the click of a button a teacher can switch from one objective to another without having to waste time going through pages and pages of notes. In addition, students may easily interact with the whiteboard by walking up to it and utilizing a special interactive pen that is linked to the whiteboard. Students may draw, write and correct things that they see on the interactive whiteboard in a matter of seconds.

Not only are interactive whiteboards easy to use and engaging for all involved but they also save money and time. One might think that an interactive whiteboards, which costs around two and a half thousand dollars per whiteboard, are quite expensive items for schools to indulge in however these whiteboards can really grab the attention of children in this fast paced and technologically abundant world. Several children can participate in figuring out the answer to a simple math problem all at once. This promotes teamwork as well as confidence in a child that might not otherwise have it. Some parents might worry that their child will be coddled by even more technology than is necessary however these are not computers that play movies all day they are learning tools that teach an abundance of skills that a regular chalkboard simply cannot. The cost of these interactive whiteboards is a very small price to pay for the progress that it can bring in children’s learning abilities. Not to mention that interactive whiteboards in the classroom can be used for many years to come without having to upgrade.

Overall, there are little disadvantages to having interactive whiteboards in the classroom. Children love being able to create and interact with the whiteboard on a daily basis. It makes school more fun and exciting than ever before.

The College of Science & Technology was started in the year 1931 as the combined Colleges of Arts, Science and Technology, and it was bifurcated in the year 1966 with Prof. R.Ramanadham as its first principal. The college has a total strength of nearly 2000 students, 100 research scholars, 232 teaches and 276 administrative and supporting staff.

It is the biggest constituent college of the University with a teacher to student ratio of nearly 1:12. Teaching yourself how to play guitar can be a worthy thing to do because you will not be dependent on your teacher (you’ll save money too!). You’d also be able to learn at the pace at which you choose to learn. Some teachers tend to teach too slowly or too quickly, which could frustrate you. However, the problem with teaching yourself is that you may not have the support that you will usually get from a teacher. Teachers can help you and point out things that you are doing wrong. Below are some more detailed advantages and disadvantages of both methods. 

Teaching Yourself How to Play the Guitar

Teaching yourself how to play the guitar is probably the more effective way of the two methods. However, it requires lots of dedication and commitment because you won’t be being taught by anybody else. If you chose to teach yourself, consider enrolling in a music class in order to learn how to read sheet music and learn musical theory.
